More Americans died of drug overdoses in 2021 than any previous year, up 15% since 2020. Challenges in 2021 involve lost access to treatment, social isolation and a more potent drug supply, all exacerbated by the Covid pandemic.
Of the 107,622 deaths, 80K involved opioids including fentanyl, which is 100 times more powerful than morphine.
